Booked Solid: Cover to Cover Celebrates 20th Anniversary

When Crystal Wolfe walked into the new bookstore in town 20 years ago, she never thought she’d be walking out with a job that would turn into store ownership.

Cover to Cover Books was one of the few occupied units along the Pinewood Road Plaza at the time, and now the bustling hub could never be considered remote. From its infancy through the ups and downs of growth, including store expansion, Cover to Cover’s ultimate book lover has been spreading the joy of a good book to anyone who walks in the door.

“We have always operated under the goal of making people feel welcome, safe, and happy,” says Crystal. “If you can think of a subject, it has been discussed in this store. We talk, we listen, and we connect with each other.”

Many in Riverview are familiar with the new-to-you literary offerings at Cover to Cover. In addition to a generous in-store trade credit program, you can also find a variety of K-Cups and coffee syrups at their store. New this year is the popular “Blind Date with a Book” shelf, where two local sisters—both avid readers—wrap individual books and include a summary on the front to identify the genre and give readers a brief synopsis, and add an eclectic mix of goodies that match the story’s theme.

Today, the most popular racks are at the front of the store, where customers can browse “Books with Buzz,” as well as “Crystal’s Picks.” These are all books that Crystal would reread, and having read 300 books last year alone, she has no problem keeping the shelves stocked.

“I’m here to sell books, but only books I think you’ll want to read,” says Crystal. “Books are my passion, and this store is truly my happy place.”

Lifelong friendships have been made at Cover to Cover, and as the team prepares to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the store, Crystal emphasizes the community support that has made this journey possible.

“I really can’t explain it—this is just an amazing place. I can’t put into words how much a part of me this store is and the joy and blessing the journey has been,” remarks Crystal.

Stop by Cover to Cover Books to chat with Crystal and her colleagues Kim and Sarah, as well as former owners—and still regular customers—Tony and Debbie, as they celebrate 20 years of story sharing on Saturday, July 5, from 12 to 5 p.m. Along with some treats there will be a hardcover book sale and $20 gift certificates being awarded. Be sure to follow the Cover to Cover Facebook page for all the details!

“All are welcome to join us at our 20th anniversary celebration,” says Crystal. “Community is why we’re here and we can’t wait to see everyone and share our appreciation for all the support that has gone into making this milestone a reality.”
