Do I have to subscribe to see if a parking ban is on?

No, you don’t have to subscribe to see updated information on parking bans. Anyone can visit the Riverview Alerts Dashboard to see active parking bans, emergency warnings, and more. No account is required to view this information.

When required, emergency alerts are issued to email and/or phone. These alerts are on an opt-in basis, meaning to receive the alerts to your device(s), you need to register and opt-in for alerts. If you want to receive a notification when a parking ban is on, you must sign up and manage your subscription. Otherwise you can check the Dashboard at 4 p.m. to see if a parking ban alert is issued for that evening.

When are alerts issued?

Alerts are issued as required. If a situation has a public safety risk, alerts can be issued. This would include, for instance, evacuations, forest fires, localized flooding, etc.

In the case of notifying residents and visitors of winter parking restriction enforcement, alerts are issued by 4 p.m. daily via SMS and email alerts to subscribers as well as on the public dashboard at RiverviewAlerts.ca.

How do I know if I can park on the street or not during the winter?

Enforcement of the winter parking restrictions will be prominently displayed on the map as well as the “road closures” section of the public dashboard at RiverviewAlerts.ca by 4 p.m. daily from December 1 to April 1. Subscribers who opted-in to the “parking ban” alert type will also receive email and/or text (SMS) alerts of when a ban is in effect overnight.

I don’t think I should have gotten a ticket, who do I talk to?

If you would like to report a concern to our by-law enforcement department, please fill out this form. townofriverview.ca/reportaconcern

I thought I was safe parking on the street because it wasn’t snowing. Why did I get a ticket?

A parking ban is implemented when snow-clearing or ice-removal operations are expected. Even if it's not currently snowing, streets and sidewalks may still need to be salted in anticipation of cold/icy weather in the forecast. That's why sometimes you will notice parking restrictions are in effect on seemingly 'nice' nights. Always check the dashboard at RiverviewAlerts.ca to confirm if a ban is in effect before parking on town streets from December 1 to April 1.

I signed up a while ago, but didn’t get any alerts for the parking ban – what's happening?

A few things could be happening here. Firstly, you may not have set your subscription preferences, which allows us to send you notifications for the type of alert you want to receive (emergency or parking) and the way you would like to receive it (text or email or both). You can check this by visiting the dashboard at riverviewalerts.ca and signing in. Once signed in, you will be presented with the subscription page below to set your preferences.

Another possibility is that there haven’t been any alerts issued since you have signed up. If you know there have been, it’s likely that the first option is applicable. If you are still unsure what might be the problem, please reach out to communications@townofriverview.ca for further assistance.

Can I decide what type of alerts I receive?

Yes, subscribers choose which type of alerts they receive. When you log in, you select which notifications you receive under the subscription tab. Subscribers can opt-in via email and/or SMS for emergency warnings and parking ban alerts. Emergency warnings is all-encompassing and would consist of any alert other than parking-related notices issued.

What is the difference between Riverview Alerts and the alerts that I have received in the past on my phone?

The alerts automatically broadcast on phones, televisions, radios, etc. are issued through the Alert Ready system. Our program, Riverview Alerts, is an independent emergency management system that is subscription-based and used for municipal emergencies affecting the Town of Riverview. The Alert Ready program is often used by the Government of New Brunswick and the RCMP. If Alert Ready messages are sent, they will often be broadcast again through Riverview Alerts but are not issued by the Town and are only able to be sent to subscribers.

Will the alerts be broadcasted on my phone, even if it is on silent?

No, this is not the Alert Ready system. These alerts will be issued as text messages for those that opt-in via their mobile number, or, to an email for those who subscribe via email.

My family member got an alert message, but I didn’t. Why not?

There are several reasons that someone you know may have received an alert, but you did not. First, you must be opted-into alerts to ensure they go to either your phone via text and/or to your email. Secondly, some alerts are geo-targeted, meaning they are only issued to those that are impacted. For a Town-wide emergency, for instance, everyone would receive an alert. For a specific neighbourhood emergency, i.e. localized flooding in a neighbourhood, the alert(s) may be targeted to the specific area. Alerts are sent and geo-targeted based on the address associated to the profile.
