Welcome to the Embracing Responsibility Scholarship dedicated to honoring Barb Hurlbut's exceptional contributions as the former Riverview Aquatic Center coordinator for over three decades. Established by the Town of Riverview, this scholarship aims to honor and support the commitment of lifeguards and swim instructors, recognizing the impact they have on and off the pool deck.
About the Scholarship:
The Embracing Responsibility Scholarship is an annual initiative that offers a $2,000 CDN scholarship to individuals engaged in lifeguarding or instructing at Pat Crossman Memorial Aquatic Center and/or Lion Ken Gabbey Outdoor Community Pool. It's designed to promote employment, improve retention, and acknowledge the significant contributions made by individuals in these roles. This scholarship is open to Grade 12 students and those pursuing post-secondary education, emphasizing the importance of experience and leadership.

Applicants must submit an online form with their personal details, work experience, and the required essay and reference letter. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted online by 1 p.m. AST on Thursday, February 18, 2025.
How are recipients chosen?
The recipient of the Embracing Responsibility Scholarship will be announced in Spring 2025. All scholarship finalists will be evaluated and interviewed by a selection committee consisting of former and current Town of Riverview employees.

In up to 500 words, reflect on your responsibilities, impact, and leadership roles at the pool. Share your experiences leading in the aquatic environment and in other aspects of your life. Highlight specific instances where you took on leadership roles, such as captaining a team, coaching, or contributing to community initiatives.
Explain how these experiences have shaped your leadership skills and prepared you for the next steps in your post-secondary education and future academic pursuits.
