Town Welcomes New Economic Development Manager

The Town of Riverview is proud to introduce our new Economic Development Manager, Shanel Akerley, who has been brought on to plan and activate strategic economic development initiatives within the Riverview community and ensure that projects, programs, and services respond to the priorities of the Town.

As a creative thinker with an affinity for analyzing trends, Shanel’s goal is to promote our beautiful Town as the premier destination to move, do business, and grow. Collaborating with immigration and settlement agencies, neighboring municipalities, and the Town’s internal experts, she is responsible for creating and fostering growth opportunities for the Town of Riverview. Having worked previously at Cavendish Farms, the City of Moncton, and at Enterprise Greater Moncton (having evolved to become the Southeast Regional Service Commission), Shanel comes to us with years of experience in private, public, and non-profit sectors, and combines critical thinking with market research in her objective to create the perfect conditions for investing in the town.

Having studied Commerce, Economics, and Marketing at Mount Allison University, Shanel has also earned a Diploma of College studies in Community Development and Cross-Cultural Development from Collège Marie-Victorin in Montreal. An ambassador for positive change, she has most recently found inspiration in the book “13 Ways to Kill Your Community”, written by Doug Griffiths. Her passion lies in economic development by means of building viable, diverse, and inclusive communities.

Creating and executing growth strategies and establishing strong relationships across community builders is what Shanel is all about. Most importantly, her focus resides on creating opportunities for the Riverview residents and businesses that she is committed to serving. Something you may not know is that Shanel is a combat sport enthusiast with a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Watch out for her energetic spirit, both on and off the mats!
