The Town of Riverview is seeking candidates for the summer student position of Junior Leadership Assistant with the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Relations from May 12, 2025, to August 22, 2025.
The selected candidate will assist with the planning, organizing, scheduling, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of the Junior Leadership Program specifically designed for youth volunteers ages 13 to 15.
Part I - Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities
Assist with the planning, organizing, and implementation of a complete schedule of volunteering opportunities, fundraising events, activities and seminars for the Junior Leadership Program
Assist in providing leadership, supervision and guidance to Junior Leaders.
Assist with the organization and implementation of events within the budgeted funds.
Offer creative and unique ideas for activities to engage program participants; adapt activities to meet the needs of all participants.
Assist with the supervision and accompany participants during activities and outings, when needed and ensure all activities are carried out safely.
Assist with fostering positive interactions between staff, Junior Leaders and others in a professional manner; resolve disputes, as required.
Work closely with Junior Leaders and community partners to ensure any scheduled volunteer opportunities are adhered to, inform coordinator of any necessary changes made so they may be tracked.
Provide feedback to Coordinator from JL volunteer opportunities and fundraising initiatives.
Ensure follow-up with individual Junior Leaders occurs in a timely manner.
Assist with other youth programs when necessary, including Youth Drop-in Centre and Riverview Skatepark/Youth Centre activities.
Communicate with parents and ensure coordinators are aware of any parental concerns so that they may be addressed in a timely manner.
Accurately complete and submit all forms and reports including incident reports, Junior Leaders’ evaluations, and budget forms in a timely manner.
Assist with the final detailed program report and inventory to be provided to the Community Recreation Coordinator. (Youth)
Adhere to the policies, practices and procedures of the Town of Riverview.
Demonstrate and maintain a high standard of professional conduct at all times.
Establish and maintain a good relationship with program participants, their parents/guardians, community partners, the public and co-workers.
Use problem solving skills but seek assistance when necessary.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
Part II - Job Requirements:
Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
Currently enrolled in post-secondary education.
Valid New Brunswick Class 5 Driver’s License.
Proven leadership roles through work experience, volunteer positions, membership in organizations, etc.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, web applications such as ZOOM and Go to Meetings, internet research and social media.
Knowledge of Town of Riverview brand as well as an interest in graphic design would be an asset.
Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Team-oriented, self-directed with good problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively and efficiently with youth.
Familiarity with Town of Riverview policies, procedures, rules and regulations, an asset.
Proof of Workplace First Aid and CPR/AED certification must be provided at least two weeks prior to the position start date.
Part III - Working Conditions:
May be required to travel on outings.
Required to work a flexible schedule including some evenings, weekends, holidays (including Canada Day) during the summer months.
Required to work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to extreme heat conditions and sun exposure.
Position is considered summer student employment with a defined term within the summer months.
Required to work for the entire duration of the term of employment.
This is a Full-Time summer student position with a rate of pay of $17.35 for 35 hours per week.
