The Town of Riverview is seeking candidates for the summer student position of “Junior Leadership Coordinator” with the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Relations from May 5, 2025, to August 22, 2025.
The selected candidate will lead the Junior Leadership team, plan, organize, schedule, promote, implement, and evaluate the Junior Leadership Program specifically designed for youth volunteer’s ages 13 to 15 years.
Part I - Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities:
Co-lead the team to plan, organize, schedule, promote, and implement a complete schedule of training, volunteer and fundraising opportunities, in addition to activities and events for the Junior Leadership Program.
Assist in all phases of recruitment of Junior Leaders
Mentor and demonstrate daily expectations for the Junior Leadership assistants, and provide immediate feedback, assistance and support.
Provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to the Junior Leadership team (staff and Junior Leaders).
Work collaboratively with the other Junior Leadership Coordinator.
Design and facilitate all activities to be sensitive to the needs/abilities of all participants, meet safety requirements and promote respect for the environment and each other.
Organize and operate events within the budgeted funds and track finances for activities.
Offer creative and unique ideas for activities to engage program participants; adapt activities to meet the needs of all participants with a focus on online engagement during mandated social distancing regulations.
Foster positive interactions between staff, Junior Leaders and others, resolve disputes, as required.
Supervise and accompany participants during activities and outings and ensure all activities are carried out safely.
Assist with other youth programs when necessary, including Youth Drop in and Riverview Skatepark/Youth Centre activities.
Communicate with parents and address parental concerns in a timely manner. Ensure supervisor is aware of concerns so they may address them if required
Accurately complete all forms and reports including incident reports, Junior Leaders’ evaluations, and budget forms in a timely manner.
Provide a detailed program report and detailed final inventory to the Community Recreation Coordinator (Youth).
Adhere to the policies, practices and procedures of the Town of Riverview.
Demonstrate and maintain a high standard of professional conduct at all times.
Establish and maintain a good relationship with program participants, their parents/guardians, the public and co-workers.
Use problem solving skills but seek assistance when necessary.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
Part II - Job Requirements:
- Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
- Currently enrolled in post-secondary education.
- Valid New Brunswick Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Proven leadership and supervisory roles through work experience, volunteer positions, membership in organizations, etc.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently work with youth.
- Excellent planning, budgeting, organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, google applications and other web applications such as ZOOM, internet research and social media.
- Knowledge of Town of Riverview brand as well as an interest in graphic design would be an asset.
- Familiarity with Town of Riverview policies, procedures, rules and regulations, an asset.
- Proof of Workplace First Aid and CPR/AED certification must be provided at least two weeks prior to the position start date.
Part III - Working Conditions:
Required to travel on outings.
Required to work a flexible schedule including some evenings, weekends, holidays (including Canada Day) during the summer months.
Required to work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to extreme heat conditions and sun exposure.
Position is considered summer student employment with a defined term within the summer months.
Required to work for the entire duration of the term of employment.
This is a Full-Time summer student position with a rate of pay of $18.50 for 35 hours per week.
