The Town of Riverview is seeking candidates for the summer student position of Outdoor Maintenance with the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Relations from May 05, 2025, to August 29, 2025. 

The selected candidate will assist with landscaping within the Town jurisdiction including cutting grass, preparing flower beds, planting flowers, weeding and other gardening duties. 

The incumbent will also assist with the seasonal preparation and general maintenance of sports fields including patching and other repairs, painting lines, removal of refuse, patching and other repairs. 

Reports to: Supervisor, Parks and Recreations Assets.

Part I - Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities 

  • Safely operate trucks, riding mowers, push mowers, grass trimmers and other tools/equipment, as assigned.

  • Assist with landscaping within the Town jurisdiction including cutting grass, preparing flower beds, planting flowers, weeding and other gardening duties.

  • Assist with the seasonal preparation and general maintenance of sports fields including patching and other repairs, painting lines, removal of refuse from town owned properties. 

  • Assist with outdoor and indoor event set up and preparation for Parks and Recreation programs.

  • Assist with facility upkeep and general maintenance of parks, playgrounds and playground equipment, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and other facilities including sports fields.

  • Assist with building maintenance including light cleaning duties, removal of refuse, painting and minor repairs, as assigned.

  • Always adhere to all safe work practices and procedures and wear all required personal protective equipment.

  • Adhere to the policies, practices and procedures of the Town of Riverview. 

  • Demonstrate and maintain a high standard of professional conduct at all times.

  • Establish and maintain a good relationship with the general public and co-workers. 

  • Perform duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Parks and Assets, working foreman and/or crew lead hand.

Part II - Job Requirements:

  • Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.

  • Valid New Brunswick Class 5 Driver’s License.

  • Completed minimum of one (1) year of post-secondary education.

  • Ability to safely operate various maintenance tools, equipment, and machinery. 

  • Must be available to work for the full duration of the specified dates.

  • Excellent teamwork skills. 

Part III - Working Conditions:

  • May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays during the summer months.

  • May be required to work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to extreme heat conditions and sun exposure.

  • Position is considered summer student employment with a defined term within the summer months.

This is a Full-Time summer student position with a rate of pay of $16.50 for 40 hours per week.
