Youth Drop-In Worker

The Town of Riverview is seeking two candidates for a Part-time position “Youth Drop-in Worker” with the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Relations from September 18th, 2024, to May 17th, 2025. 

The purpose of this position is to assist the Community Recreation Worker with the planning, organizing, scheduling and implementation of co-ed activities for youth ages 12- 17 years. The Youth Drop-in Worker is responsible for assisting with the leadership and Drop-in program participants. 

Part I - Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities 

  • Assist with the planning, organizing, implementation and evaluation of the Drop-in Program. 
  • Assist with the organization of youth activities within the budgeted funds and track finances for activities. 
  • Assist with the production of flyers, and other documents that help with the promotion of the Drop-in Program.   
  • Assist with the design and facilitation of all activities to be sensitive to the needs/abilities of all participants, meet safety requirements and promote respect for the environment.
  • Offer creative and unique ideas for activities to engage program participants; adapt activities to meet the needs of all participants.
  • Foster positive interactions between program participants and resolve disputes.
  • Supervise youth to ensure all activities are carried out safely.
  • Communicate with parent and pass on any parental concerns to the Community Recreation Worker to be dealt with in a timely manner. 
  • Assist with the design of a presentation regarding the Drop-in program to be used in promoting the program.     
  • Accurately complete all forms and reports including incident reports, activity reports and budget forms in a timely manner. 
  • Provide a detailed program report and detailed final inventory to the Community Recreation Worker (Youth).
  • Adhere to the policies, practices and procedures of the Town of Riverview. 
  • Understand and explain the policies, practices and procedures of the Town of Riverview to the general public.
  • Demonstrate and maintain a high standard of professional conduct at all times.
  • Establish and maintain a good relationship with program participants, their parents/guardians, the public and supervisor.   
  • Use problem solving skills but seek assistance when necessary. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Community Recreation Worker (Youth).

Part II - Job Requirements:

  • Valid New Brunswick Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Familiarity with Town of Riverview policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Minimum of one (1) summer work experience in Riverview Parks, Recreation and Community Relations programs would be an asset.
  • Completed minimum of one (1) year of high school and currently enrolled. 
  • Proven leadership and supervisory roles through work experience, volunteer positions, membership in organizations, etc. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, web browsers, and social media.  Interest in graphic design would be considered an asset. 
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently work with youth.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations appropriately and professionally.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Certification in Workplace CPR/ First Aid are required.

Part III - Working Conditions:

  • Required to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.  
  • Schedule are Wednesdays - 6:30PM - 9:30PM and Saturdays - 6:00PM - 9:30P.M.
  • Required to work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to extreme heat conditions and sun exposure.
  • Position is considered student employment with a defined term.

This is a Part Time youth position with a rate of pay of $16.30 per hour.
