Youth Programmer - Skatepark

The Town of Riverview is seeking candidates for the Part-time position, “Youth Programmer” at the Skatepark and Youth Centre, with the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Relations from January to May 2025. 

The purpose of this position is to assist with the supervision of youth and facilitation/guidance of youth activities/events and/or programs. 

Part I - Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities 

  • Assist in supervising Skatepark and Youth Centre patrons; provide leadership, guidance and mentorship, as required. 

  • Caution patrons regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; enforce and adhere to Skatepark rules and regulations.

  • Implement programming for patrons of the facility. 

  • Assist with special events, and activities designed for children and youth of varying ages; supervise youth during activities and ensure all activities are carried out safely.

  • Maintain a clean and safe park for all visitors.

  • Take regular admission fees and sell memberships; ensure patrons sign-in to the Skatepark and Youth Centre.

  • Accurately handle transactions; complete daily records as required.

  • Sell merchandise and maintain inventory of and purchase supplies for the Riverview Skatepark Canteen.

  • Maintain membership files and waivers. 

  • Accurately complete all forms and reports including incident reports, log sheets, daily checklist, equipment sign out, etc. 

  • Understand, adhere to and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health & Safety Policies for all participants and staff.

  • Explain the Skatepark and Youth Centre policies and practices to patrons, parents/guardians and the general public.

  • Demonstrate and maintain a high standard of professional conduct at all times.

  • Establish and maintain a good relationship with staff, patrons, their parents/guardians, the public and co-workers. 

  • Attend meetings/training as required.

  • Use problem solving skills but seek assistance when necessary. 

Part II - Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of one-year post-secondary studies in recreation/leisure studies, social science, youth services or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven leadership and supervision of youth; experience planning and facilitating youth activities and events.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, google applications and other web applications such as ZOOM, internet research and social media.

  • Valid Workplace Standard First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Ability to effectively work with children and youth of varying ages and members of the public.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sectors Screening, meeting Town’s expectations. 
  • Experience, knowledge and interest in skateboarding, an asset.

Part III - Working Conditions:

  • Required to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.  
  • Schedule are Approximately 25hrs / weekend (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays)

This is a Part Time youth position with a rate of pay of $16.30 per hour.
