Council Approves 2025 Budget
RIVERVIEW, NB – Riverview Town Council approved the final General and Utility Fund Operating and Capital budgets for 2025 at its public meeting on November 28, with the final ratification taking place prior to the Regular Council Meeting on December 9. Highlights include a tax rate reduction of 5 cents, major investments in fire equipment, and continued construction of the Riverview Recreation Complex for the year ahead.
NOTABLE HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE APPROVED BUDGET:
- The tax rate will be reduced by 5 cents to $1.3826 per $100 of assessed property value. The tax rate has been reduced by 21 cents over the past 4 years.
- The residential water and sewer rate will increase by $8 ($912 to $920 annually) and increase by $0.03 per cubic meter (0.9%) for commercial users
- The Debt Ratio for 2025 is projected to be 7.33%
- Total Operating Budget of $41,283,226
MORE STAFF TO UPHOLD TOWN’S HIGH SERVICE STANDARDS
Investment in five new positions to ensure the town can continue to deliver services to today’s service expectation standard.
- Fire & Rescue: Two positions related to continuation of plan started in 2024
- Engineering: Traffic Coordinator and Manager of Utilities
- Parks, Recreation, Facilities, & Community Relations: Project/Energy Coordinator
CAPITAL PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
2025 is a big year with projects totaling over $46 Million.
- The Riverview Recreation Complex ($32 Million)
- Two new fire trucks the department has been waiting on ($3 Million)
- Traffic Lights at Trites Rd. and Coverdale Rd. ($500k)
- LED Lights on Gunningsville Blvd. ($525k)
BETTER STREETS ACROSS TOWN
Town’s street pavement program & utility capital budget focuses on more streets in 2025.
- Local improvements totaling $3.8 million will include Garland Dr., Pinegrove Dr., Vernon Ave. (Pinegrove to Manning), and Whitepine Rd. (Cleveland to Pine Glen Rd.), with sidewalk reconstruction and water main renewal on Sussex Ave.
- The annual paving schedule will address asphalt seal and resurfacing projects on Blair St., Philip Rd. (Pine Glen to Wilmot), Old Coach Rd. (Hillsborough to Ford), Suffolk St., Westview Terr., Sherwood Ave., and Manning Rd.
INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS
Investing in improvements to recreational assets to ensure Riverview continues to be A Great Place to play.
- $250K for code compliance and new grandstand design at the Byron Dobson Memorial Arena
- $275K gateway signage, new 1-metre hiking/biking trails at Mill Creek Nature Park
- $275K lifecycle enhancements to trail boardwalk at the Fundy Chocolate River Station
- $90K new playground installation in East Riverview (Bristol Ave.)
Overall assessment base in Riverview grew by 11.53%, with 2.82% attributed to new growth. With this approved budget, including continued implementation of the Housing Accelerator Fund programs and Economic Development Strategy, 2025 promises to be an important year for infrastructure and investments for the Town of Riverview.
