Quilty Pleasure – Local Shop Connects Community One Stitch at a Time
Riverview is home to a quaint quilt shop called The Covered Bridge Quiltery. In nearly three decades of operation, its presence is part of the fabric of the town. When it went up for sale after 25 years in business, the pieces fit together perfectly for the new owner, Vickie Quigley, to continue its legacy.
“In October 2019, the shop owners retired and sold the business to me,” she said. “As a retired Registered Medical Radiology Technologist, quilter, longarmer, and avid customer, it was great timing and the perfect opportunity for me to take on next.”
Though it has seen many changes in the past three years, the values of the shop have remained the same in fostering the love of sewing and quilting.
“At the heart of it, we’re building a community of friends and quilters,” said Vickie. “We take a lot of pride in helping you make memories one stitch at a time!”
As a guide to quilters of all experience levels, Vickie knows that community is strengthened by both giving and receiving support.
“It's great to be part of a community where we can offer support to our clients in getting their projects completed,” she said. “The support we receive in turn from our customers is second to none.”
Another way they receive support is from like-minded local businesses.
“We’re grateful for our friends at East Coast Vinyl and Five Bridges Bar and Grill,” she said. “They’re small businesses with similar values, and we often partner in support of great causes as well as refer clients to one another. We’re passionate about supporting the community’s food banks, sports teams, and wherever we see a need. We’re able to extend our reach by hosting many fundraising events at the shop.”
In a fast-paced world, The Covered Bridge draws inspiration from connecting with quilty companions whenever and wherever they can.
“I love it when folks drop by the shop or reach out over social media,” she explained. " I connect with customers on a weekly basis via Facebook live for our Top 7 at 7 on Tuesday nights. When I see new fabrics and patterns come to market, it always gets me thinking about the projects I can make and what I can offer as a learning opportunity to my clients. We offer various instore and virtual classes, to help our quilting community grow.”
New to the exciting world of quilting? They’ve got you covered.
“We sell Pfaff, Husqvarna and Singer Sewing and Serger Machines,” Vickie said. “We also offer in-store lessons to help customers get better acquainted with their new machines. We want you to feel comfortable and confident when you start creating.”
Plan a visit to their shop at 101-631 Pinewood Road to see what they’re all about. They’re a certified dealer for Kimberbell and offer their fabric line, embroidery designs and a variety of other products in-store. While you’re there, ask about their new service that offers subscribers digital embroidery patterns on a monthly basis.
