Committee of the Whole Council Meeting – June 26, 2023
External Reports
- Building and Planning – Development activity report (including year-to-date numbers) and the Building Permit Report for May 2023 were shared.
- Codiac RCMP shared activity reports for the tri-communities for May 2023 - Superintendent Jolette provided an overview of current work, and shared that they'll be bringing the "Coffee With A Cop" Initiative to Riverview to connect with residents and answer questions.
Departmental Reports
- All departments shared their reports for June 2023.
- Riverview SUNFEST continues all week, culminating in Canada Day celebrations on Saturday, July 1.
Recommendations
- The Committee of the Whole made a motion to recommend that Riverview Town Council approve the establishment of the Barb Hurlbut Scholarship for Leadership and Aquatics in the amount of $2,000 per year, commencing in 2024. This will provide an additional incentive to offer students who serve as lifeguards and help the Town recruit more staff.
- The Committee of the Whole recommend that Riverview Town Council direct staff to authorize Stantec Consulting Ltd. to proceed with a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment to establish an environmental closure plan for the former public works site (Pine Glen & Whitepine) and use available funding in the 2023 General Operating budget to complete the project.

Other Business
- The Grant Report for the month of June 2023 can be found here. Staff approved five recommendations within the grant report to Carlie Best (Basketball NB) in the amount of $100; Moncton Fisher Cats in the amount of $500; Riverview East Karate – International Karate Competition (5 Riverview students qualified to attend) in the amount of $500; Riverview Minor Hockey Association – Golf Tournament sponsorship in the amount of $150; Business & Professional Women of Greater Moncton - 2023 Phenomenal Women Award in the amount of $250.
- Councillor John Coughlan provided an update on the Codiac Regional Policing Authority as he sits on the board, as well as Councillor Cecile Cassista provided an update on the work of the Seniors Roundtable and the UMNB Board.
Special Council Meeting
A special Council meeting was held immediately following the COW meeting to approve the following motions:
- The Committee of the Whole recommend that Riverview Town Council accept the staff recommendations with respect to the DTI land as outlined in the Council Report Form dated June 25, 2023.
